In this post I will be testing swatches of Honeybee Gardens Mineral Pressed Foundations. You might also be interested in their blushes and lipsticks swatches I tested a while ago.

Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation

Shades:

• Geisha - pale, cool for very light skin, as it does look “geisha”style on my yellowish warm toned skin
• Avignon - pale to light neutral shade, it’s still a bit pale on my skin, but more blended compared to Geisha
• Supernatural - neutral light shade
• Luminous - medium neutral with a hint of warmth
• Malibu - medium shade great for olive or Mediterranean skin tones
• Montego - warm tan neutral for richer skin tones
• Sundance - deeper shade of tan/mocha
• Sultana - deepest shade of mocha

Ingredients: mica, zinc stearate, zea mays (corn) starch*, lyceum Chinese (goji) berry*, bambusa arundinaceae (bamboo) powder, silica, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, caprylic capric triglyceride. May contain: titanium dioxide, iron oxide (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).* certified organic ingredient

User Experience:

The texture feels very smooth, silky and light-weighted. If you have very dry skin, perhaps use some facial oil before you apply the powder.

I think Supernatural, Luminous and Malibu are probably suitable for light to medium warm skin tone. The other shades are either a bit too pale or too deep. Perhaps you could also buy shades paler or deeper than your own and mix them up to achieve the most perfect tone for yourself. Or, the deeper shades can also make perfect fake tan without getting the real tan from sunshine which might potentially damage your skin (especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone to eczema or acne).

Package:

All the foundation comes with a simple basic package, so you have to purchase additional compact with the puff. However, I do find that convenient in a way: less package means lighter weight, so it’s easier to carry when travel; if you already own another compact, you save money on additional package which is thrown per year, thus you also reduce waste over all; if you own something like Z-palette, it’s hassle-free as you don’t need to dig them out from original package. Use within 12 months after opening.

Pressed Eyeshadow and Powdercolor

Honeybee Gardens has two kinds of eyeshadow. One is pressed; the other is powder colors. Since I don’t use a lot of eyeshadow nowadays, I only tried a few brown shades here. According to them, PowderColors is a blend of pure, uncoated mineral pigments and oxidized mica, free from unnecessary fillers and preservatives. These beautiful loose powders can be used as eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, and even mixed with their Clear WaterColors Nail Enamel to create custom polish colors! So I guess for DIY fans PowderColor might be the ultimate choice then.

Pressed Eyeshadow

Shades:

• Mojave - matte light earthy brown

Ingredients:

User Experience:

Like the foundations, those powders are very fine and easy to apply. I haven't yet tested the duration, but judging from my experience of using the foundation I would think it is quite lasting. Personally I don't worry too much if that doesn't last forever. I actually prefer products that could be easily removed by my home-made oil cleanser.

Package:

Pressed eyeshadow comes in very simple paper package. Like the foundation, you can choose to buy a compact of four round slots to place your very own selected colors. I found it a brilliant idea as we know most of the colors in those multiple colored palettes were unused and ended up being thrown away, especially if you’re not a professional makeup artist or makeup junkie. If you occasionally need some unusual color you don’t normally use, you can choose to buy a bag of sample. Use within 12 months after opening.
